Feedback from New Page Review process

[edit]

I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: Nice work. Two notes: (1) please remember to add publication dates to sources and (2) WP:DISCOGS is not a reliable source.

Regarding ------ / ------ / ------ / XXXXXX / ------ / ------

[edit]

Hello. I noticed you moved "------ / ------ / ------ / XXXXXX / ------ / ------" to instead reside at "9-3-6-5-5-7". This isn't the title of the track, which is clearly denoted on the front cover (tracks are not referred to by their lyrics; that makes no sense). Multiple publications call this track by the longer title (such as here, here and many more). I would appreciate it if you moved the page back to its original title, or at least discuss it here. Thank you. Beachweak (talk) 14:30, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I have went ahead and requested a move back to the original title, which has now been put in place. Please shoot me a message here or on the article talk page if you'd like to discuss it. Thank you. Beachweak (talk) 22:59, 6 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello.
And how do you pronounce this first wrong "title" that you have restored, please ?
Cordially. GambrinewX (talk) 20:35, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
P.-S. : this "record" of 12 seconds hasn't got "lyrics", but just the statement of the 6 numbers of its real title...
I had listened it on line specially for WP, and you ? GambrinewX (talk) 20:41, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
By "lyrics" I'm referring to the spoken numbers on the track, as you have said yourself. In terms of pronunciation, while I've never really thought about it, I'm sure it could be referred to by "XXXXXX" or simply just the "Boards of Canada RSD 2013 single". Regardless, the title of the release is stated on the front cover and there are multiple publications that refer to the release by this longer name; some of which I have linked above. I'm happy to provide more sources if you need me to. Beachweak (talk) 20:53, 7 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, Beachweak.
I propose to you that we continue this discussion directly on the discussion page of this article,
by first copying and pasting the above...
Have a nice week, happy new year. GambrinewX (talk) 10:53, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion has been moved. Beachweak (talk) 11:28, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I have to agree with @Beachweak. If the cover of the single calls it something unpronounceable and other reliable sources do too, then that is the title. That it be pronounceable is not one of the criteria for how we title articles.
Calling the single "9-3-6-5-5-7", however, looks like it would be Original Research. — OwenBlacker (he/him; Talk) 13:32, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Proposition of a new more adapted title

[edit]

like for instances:

Encrypted release of "Tomorrow's Harvest",

or

Coded release of Tomorrow's Harvest ?...

Because none of the sources mentioned dare to pronounce it

"Dash dash dash dash dash dash slash

dash dash dash dash dash dash dash slash

dash dash dash dash dash dash slash

eks eks eks eks eks eks slash

dash dash dash dash dash dash slash

dash dash dash dash dash dash"

nor even "6 dashes slash 6 dashes slash 6 dashes slash 6 eks (or 6 saltires !?...) slash 6 dashes slash 6 dashes",

even before the release of the album "Tomorrow's Harvest";

maybe just 6 eks or even 6 crosses, on music or specialized radio stations,

but then this pronunciation was not correct either, since incomplete...

That's why I propose a posteriori a pronounceable title, and not just a "visual" one like on the cover, but rather something like:

Coded release of Tomorrow's Harvest,

otherwise the 6 numbers 9-3-6-5-5-7 proposed last week, which finally came to "fill the 6 crosses" as in an administrative form (or, here, a band's cryptic game with their fans), when we take the trouble to really listen to the piece, the best of sources (even more than its encrypted cover alone), as I had done

(piece which is not a "song", if not the monotonous unsung statement of these 6 numbers, on a vague background sound of 12 to 20 seconds, that's why we should also change in this sense the very corpus of the article, and the palette at the bottom of the pages...).

That would make it:

more pronounceable, therefore more encyclopedic, especially for a simple promotional game for launching an album lasting 12 to 20 seconds (!);

more clearly explicit towards the full album of reference, with the already blurry cover photo, "Tomorrow's Harvest", or even towards its real single extract, this one, "Reach for the dead" ...

Happy new week, month & year to you. GambrinewX (talk) 12:15, 13 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

A title being more "pronounceable", in the context of song titles, doesn't really matter. Multiple reliable, secondary sources have called this track by the longer title. The cover itself features this title. That is what we go off of. People who are searching for the track will either use the title of the article, type in "XXXXXX" (which the article shows up for), or simply look up "Boards of Canada 2013 Record Store Day" (or something similar) and find the article.
To give another example, the artist "vyrval" has a track called "✻H+3+ЯД✻7luCJIo0T6..." This title is unpronounceable, but yet it is still the title of the track and discussion around the track uses this title. While some may refer to it with a different title, the official title is the string of random characters.
I've provided a list of sources that call this track by the longer title. There are probably even more, but hopefully these will show that this is how the track is referred to.
